A different perspective on health. A more connected approach to care.

Meet Dr. Shylah Schauer, Naturopathic Doctor

I’m a naturopathic doctor, educator, and healthcare entrepreneur with a passion for understanding how the body’s interconnected systems influence health.

My clinical work focuses on gastrointestinal health, the microbiome, and the gut-brain connection, with a particular interest in complex digestive concerns, women’s health, and the relationship between nutrition and neurological well-being.

I founded Sustainable Medicine with a simple belief: patients deserve the time, information, and individualized attention needed to make informed decisions about their health.

My approach combines comprehensive clinical assessment, evidence-informed integrative medicine, personalized nutrition, and collaboration with conventional healthcare providers when appropriate.

I don't believe every patient needs the same protocol. I believe every patient deserves a thoughtful plan.

Beyond the clinic

My work extends beyond individual patient care into healthcare education, digital health, and program development.

As the founder of Microbiome Health Tech, I’m developing NexGut™, a digital health platform designed to make personalized gut health and nutrition guidance more accessible.

I also speak at professional conferences and community events on topics including the microbiome, neurological health, gastrointestinal disorders, and integrative approaches to complex health concerns.

My broader mission is to help bring microbiome science into practical healthcare—from the individual patient to larger healthcare systems.

A global perspective on medicine

Living and working between the United States and Europe has shaped how I approach health and healthcare delivery.

My background includes international healthcare projects, experience in healthcare policy, and more than two decades of yoga practice. These experiences have reinforced my interest in the relationship between science, lifestyle, accessibility, and sustainable health.

They've also taught me that healthcare should be both scientifically informed and deeply human.

The philosophy behind Sustainable Medicine

Health is complex. Care should be personal.

My clinical philosophy is grounded in understanding the individual rather than relying on a single diagnosis, laboratory marker, or treatment protocol.

For patients with digestive concerns, that may mean considering gastrointestinal function, nutrition, medical history, medication use, stress, and other relevant factors. It also means recognizing when conventional medical investigation or specialist involvement is needed.

Sustainable Medicine provides adjunctive integrative care that complements, rather than replaces, your primary care clinician and other members of your healthcare team.

Let's start with your story.

Whether you're navigating persistent digestive symptoms, exploring the relationship between your gut and hormones, or looking for a more individualized approach to your health, I would be glad to learn more about your concerns.

Your first consultation is an opportunity to explore your health history, review your concerns, and establish an informed direction for your care.
